Bird is a school of music, an art space, a performance venue, a recording facility and even
a yoga studio. Lane co-founded Bird in 2005, fulfilling a long-time dream of establishing
a musical community and creativity- and technology-driven learning space.
Bird has quickly grown into a vital part of the Bay Area music scene, hosting clinics and
concerts and collaborating with American Conservatory Theatre on projects like the 2006 premier of
"Across the Universe,"
featuring the music of John Lennon and Paul McCartney, and 2007's "Fields of Gold,"
featuring the works of Sting.
Bird provides instrumental instruction and band supervision primarily to children and young
adults. Offerings range from private instrument lessons and song-writing to classes on
stage presence, running rehearsals and engineering live and recorded sound.
As school and studio director, Lane Murchison uses his experience as a musician, instructor,
composer and producer to help forward Bird's focus on music, technology and community.

Why Bird?
When it came time to choose a name for the new venture, Lane knew just
what he wanted to call it: Bird. "Birds are where the music comes from,"
Lane said. "I knew from the start that's what I wanted to call the
project - it's simple, direct and really gets to the root of what we
are, without limiting where we can go with it."
